The Timișoara Christmas market: the squares, the rink, and opening night
The evening of 28 November in Victory Square, then the stalls, the tree, and the rink in Central Park. From Union Square you walk.
The market fills the squares between Union Square and the cathedral, from 28 November 2026 until 7 January 2027. Opening night is in Victory Square. The stalls start the next day. The monuments, without the festive lights, are in Two days in Timișoara.
The evening of 28 November
The lights go on at 18:00, in Victory Square. “Christmas Rock Trilogy” takes the stage: Ovidiu Lipan Țăndărică and Keo, Alina Crișan, and Alexandra Ungureanu. The evening ends with carols by Narcisa Suciu. The organiser is the Culture House of Timișoara.
The stalls, under the traders’ regulations, run from 29 November until 7 January. Monday to Friday, sales are 12:00–21:00. Saturday and Sunday, 10:00–22:00. The rink and the wheel may keep other hours. You find those on site.
From Union Square to the cathedral
The five places are Union Square, Liberty Square, St George’s Square, Victory Square, and Central Park. From Emmer Palace you step out into Union Square. Florimund Mercy Street takes you to Liberty Square, then to Victory Square. Central Park closes the walk, beside the cathedral.
On 5 December, the eve of St Nicholas, Union Square has “Piano Sky”: a piano suspended above the square. In Central Park, on those same days, children have performances beside the rink.
The tree, 20 metres high, stands in Victory Square, in front of the Opera. The stage is there too. On 22 December, Father Christmas gives presents in the same square, and the evening includes “The Nutcracker”.
The rink is a circuit, in Central Park, not in front of the Opera. There are also a Ferris wheel, carousels, Father Christmas’s workshop, and a small train. The sales stalls stand in Liberty Square.
The evenings after the opening
The stage in Victory Square continues with local artists and guests. You check that evening’s programme with the Culture House. The squares have no published admission ticket for 2026. The rink and the wheel are paid separately, at this edition’s fare.
Where you sleep, so you do not miss the evening
