By air: Traian Vuia Airport
Traian Vuia International Airport (TSR) is approximately 12 km north-east of central Timișoara. Regular flights connect Timișoara with Bucharest, Milan, Munich, London, Dortmund, and other European destinations, depending on the season.
From the airport, options are taxi, private transfer, or rental car. There is no direct train to the centre. The E4 express bus links the airport to the centre, but with luggage or at awkward hours, a taxi or transfer is more practical.

By train: Timișoara Nord and Timișoara Est
Timișoara Nord is the city's main railway station, with trains from Bucharest (approximately 8–9 hours by InterRegio), Arad (40 minutes), Cluj-Napoca, and other major cities. The station is in the north-west of the centre, about 2 km from Union Square.
Timișoara Est is smaller and closer to the historic centre, about 2 km from Union Square. Some regional trains stop here, but not all.
From the station, the centre is reached by taxi, tram, or on foot (20–25 minutes to Union Square). Giroc and Torontalului require a taxi or car.

By car: main routes
The A1 motorway connects Timișoara to the rest of the country. From Bucharest, the route passes through Sibiu and Deva, with motorway for most of the way. From Cluj-Napoca, you descend via the A10 and then the A1.
From Hungary, the most commonly used border crossings are Nădlac (on the A1, towards Szeged and Budapest) and Borș (towards Oradea and on to Cluj or northern Hungary). From Szeged to Timișoara is approximately 160 km.
From Serbia, the Moravița or Stamora Moravița border crossing leads towards Vršac and Belgrade. The drive from Belgrade to Timișoara is approximately 150 km.
